Stephen King Top Horror Movies are some of the best in the genre. Stephen King has been bringing great stories to book and movie lovers for a long time. He is truly a master of horror. With many of his novels becoming Hollywood hits we have created a list of some of his best ideas to be made into top horror movies.

I would say that one of my favorite horror movies and definitely one of the best from King would be Stanley Kubrick’s version of The Shining. There are so many great elements to this film. The cast does an amazing job consisting of only three main characters. This is one of Jack Nicholson’s best performances and still to this day sends chills down my spine at moments. The story follows a writer who takes a job watching over a hotel in the remote wilderness. Being stuck in snow and not being able to leave the hotel and interact with others can take a toll on the human mind. A truly terrifying movie at times with some wonderful direction makes this one of Stephen King’s Top Horror Movie adaptions.

Another great Stephen King horror movie is Misery. Kathy Bates does an excellent job as the number one fan of a writer. After the writer crashes his car and she stumbles upon him and saves him. It all starts out as a nice story but after awhile turns into a nightmare for James Caan’s character. Both a great book and great film definitely makes it’s way to the Top Horror Movies from the mind of Stephen King.

If you haven’t seen either of these movies I definitely recommend you check them out. These are both two of my favorite horror movies. Thanks to a very imaginative writer who has brought us several amazing top horror movies. Come back soon for some more suggestions in the horror movie genre.

Top Horror Movies Preview For 2008

Filed Under Upcoming Top Horror Movies | 1 Comment

Top horror movies preview for 2008.  This upcoming year is looking to be a good one as far as horror movies are concerned.  There are many upcoming films that are hoping to make the top horror movies list, but not all of them will succeed.  We wanted to preview a few of the 2008 selection so that you have an idea what to look forward to for this year.  The movies we will be taking a look at are Midnight Meat Train, Amusement, Trick ‘r Treat, and Wizard of Gore.

Midnight Meat Train is expected to on the top horror movies list for 2008.  It is about a New York City photographer that attempts to find a serial killer under the streets of the city and soon finds out he has got himself into more trouble that he wanted.  The serial killer has been given the nickname the “Subway Butcher.”  The movie is directed by Tyuhei Kitamura and is expected to be in theaters on May 16, 2008.

Amusement is another movie that should make the top horror movies list.  This film is directed by John Simpson and is supposed to hit theaters on April 25, 2008.  The film is about a stalker that stalks three women from his childhood that he has a grudge against.  It looks like it has something to do with clowns which if done right can be very scary.  Starring in this movie is Katheryn Winnick, Jesica Lucas, and Laura Breckenridge.

Trick ‘r Treat is one of those films that is coming out for Halloween.  Its release date is scheduled for October of 2008.  The previews for this film are looking good.  It is directed by Michael Dougherty and has a little of something for everyone that likes Halloween.  The movie is about a bunch of events that take place on Hallows Eve that involve rituals and legends that are broken and disturbed that cause bad things to happen to people.  It is believed that by following the rituals and traditions it helps to protect people from the evil in the world that is in full force on Halloween and Hallows Eve.  This movie should definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Wizard of Gore does not yet have a release date but it is expected to release sometime in 2008.  The top horror movies list is expecting this movie to do well enough to make the list.  It is directed Jeremy Kasten and stars Crispin Glover, Bijou Phillips, and Kip Pardue.  This movie is a remake of a 1970 film and is about a master illusionist who performs death defying acts when he selects females from his audience and dismembers them on stage only to reveal afterwards that nothing has happened to them.  Then authorities start to find female bodies that are dead and have been dismembered just as the illusionist performed on stage.  The hunt is now on for the serial killer.  There are high hopes for this film so hopefully it does not disappoint and fail to make the top horror movies list for 2008.

2008 Top Horror Movies, Will Cloverfield Be One?

2008 Top Horror Movies, will Cloverfield be one?  This upcoming movie is going to be released world wide on January 18, 2008 except in Australia which will see a January 17 release date.  The hype has been growing at a rapid pace because of the movie trailers that are out for the movie.  They have done an excellent job to show not show much of anything about the movie and especially the monster.

The basic plot of Cloverfield is about a bunch of friend’s, that were having a party, try to survive an attack on the city by a giant monster.  The film is kind of a cross between Godzilla and The Blair Witch Project.  The movie is told from the point of view of the group of friend’s video camera.  The Blair Witch Project was one of the top horror movies of its time and was a huge success considering its tiny budget.  This film has a lot of potential based on what it is about, but only time will tell if it can be one of the top horror movies of 2008.

Cloverfield is expected to be one of the top horror movies of 2008.  It was produced by J.J. Abrams and the movie was directed by Matt Reeves.  J.J. Abrams has been involved in some big movies such as Mission Impossible III where he was the director as well as the co-writer.  He was also the writer for the film Armageddon from 1998.  He has two other projects in the mix currently.  The first is Star Trek which is slated for a December 2008 release and the second a film that has not been titled yet, but he is the director and producer of the film.   Matt Reeves is an interesting choice as director of this film.  He does not have a ton of directing experience under his belt.  The only movie he has directed is The Pallbearer.  He has done a fair amount of writing for films though.  He could be the biggest curve ball as to the success of Cloverfield.  It could be really awesome or it may just be ok.

If this movie is successful, the monster in the film is what is going to make it one of the 2008 top horror movies.  The monster in Cloverfield is supposed to be the size of a skyscraper and it is supposed to wreck havoc upon the city.  Will this group of friends survive the attack?  Will they be the only ones left in the whole city?  You will have to watch the film to find out.  We are very excited for it’s January 18, 2008 release.  What do you think will it be a one of top horror movies of 2008?

Top Horror Movies of the 1950’s

Filed Under Top Horror Movies of the 1950's | 3 Comments

Top Horror Movies of the 1950’s were some of the best horror movies in my opinion came from.  In the 50’s more movies were starting to use better special effects and color for films.  Here is just a few of the best from that era.

A personal favorite of mine that is one of the top horror movies that decade is Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  The idea that people change over night but still look and talk the same has always given me the creeps.  This movie follows a doctor and his girlfriend while they try to figure out the mystery behind the people of their small town.  The movie is very intense and has a few surprises up its sleeve.  It has inspired several remakes including one from 2007 starring Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig.  The movie was low budget but still had great qualities and to me will always be a classic.

Back in 1954 came a great movie called Creature From The Black Lagoon.  It brought one of the best Monsters to movie history.   Shot in Black and White worked well for this movie.  It doesn’t have to have any gore to creep you out like most horror movies now days.  The plot is about an expedition on the Amazon.  There the ship’s crew finds some type of prehistoric creature.  Towards the end of the movie you start to feel sympathy for the creature.  It provides some old fashion scares and that’s why it is listed as one of the top horror movies.

Certainly a classic horror movie and part of the top horror movies from 1959 is The Mummy.  The film starred both Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.  This was a remake of the 1930’s classic and almost as good.  The mummy is played by Lee instead of Boris Karloff.  The movie is made in technicolor instead of b&w.  The film is directed by Terence Fisher.  If you haven’t checked it out yet then try to find a copy.

I’m a huge fan of older horror movies.  They don’t rely on large amounts of blood or DTS surround to make us jump.  There’s just something about the top horror movies from back in the day that seems to be more pure then some of the others we see coming out now days.

Top Horror Movies of the 1960’s

Top Horror Movies from the 60’s. Many of the classic horror movies come from the past not just the present. Here are a few that we believe are top horror movies of that time.

One of the more surprising and disturbing top horror movies from 1968 was Rosemary’s Baby. The movie was directed by Roman Polanski who more recently directed The Pianist. The film is about a couple that moves into an apartment. After moving into the new place the woman gets pregnant. There are strange happenings all around the couple. The movie’s finale is horrifying and disturbing.

Another great movie from the 1960’s from one of the best directors of all time is The Birds. Alfred Hitchcock is definitely the master of suspense. A young woman seeks out a man that she meets in the city. After the woman finds the man in a small town, birds start attacking out of nowhere. Even though the movie is older Hitchcock has always made movies that are still fun and scary to watch still. This is without a doubt one of the classic top horror movies of all time.

Hitchcock is a legend of the film industry so it’s no surprise that the man has another movie that belongs on the top horror movies of the 60’s. The next one is one of the best of all time called Psycho. The movie follows a woman running from the law and her family. After stealing money from her boss the woman leaves town quick. Along the way she stops in at the Bates Motel. Anthony Perkins gives an amazing performance as Norman Bates. No one can forget the classic shower scene. This movie is true suspense and it doesn’t take gore or CGI to make it one of the best movies ever made.

These movies opened the doors to provide great stories and horror. They are some of the best top horror movies of all time. They have definitely played a big part in how directors make movies today and in the future.

There are a few upcoming 2008 movies that are expected to be Top Horror Movies and that many people are very excited about.  Some of these movies include Cloverfield, The Poughkeepsie Tapes, and Case 39.  Will 2008 be a better year for horror movies that 2007 was?  Only time will tell, but the year is expected to start off with a bang with the opening of Cloverfield.

Cloverfield is expected to be one of the top horror movies of 2008 if not the top horror movie of the year.  If you have not seen a trailer for this movie you may not understand why the anticipation for this film is so high.  The movie trailer is very clever.  There is supposedly a monster in the film that anyone interested in the movie is dying to find out more about it.  Nobody knows what the monster looks like.  Some people claim that you get a glimpse of the monster in one of the movie trailers, but if you have seen the trailer that it is almost impossible to see any details at all about the monster.  One thing is for sure, the makers of this film are building a huge amount of anticipation that is likely to cause this top horror movie to have a huge opening weekend.

The Poughkeepsie Tapes is another upcoming top horror movies of 2008.  This movie is based around a decade of video tapes that are found in an abandoned house.  The tapes reveal very disturbing images of crimes that include dismemberment, torture, and murder that a serial killer committed.  The tapes give police a huge amount of evidence against this serial killer.  Will they help authorities to capture the serial killer that has been on the loose for the past 10 years?  We are going to have to wait until the movie is released to find out how this movie turns out.

One of the last upcoming top horror movies of 2008 is entitled Case 39.  This movie is expected to be good and intense.  It has a big name actress in Renee Zellweger that is starring in the movie.  The film is directed by Christian Alvart.  The plot of this film is very chilling and disturbing because of how real it seems.  The movie is based around a girl that is apparently being abused by her parents and is only 10 years old.  Renee Zellweger plays a social worker that is doing everything she can to help save this little girl.  To Zellweger’s surprize the 10 year old girl does not seem to be as innocent as she believed she was.  This movie is looking to be very suspensful and anticipation is going to continue to grow until its August release date.  If you are into horror movies these upcoming top horror movies are surely to peak your interest for the 2008 movie year.

Top Horror Movies from Asia

Top Horror Movies from Asia have brought some great and original ideas to the world. Many Asian horror films that are popular have been remade by American studios. Here is a list of some of the best Asian horror movies.

First on the top horror movies from Asia and one of the more recent ones to come from Korea is The Host. This movie has been compared to Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in many ways. It is about a monster that terrorizes humans on Seoul’s Han River. A young girl is taken hostage by the creature. Her family must stand up and take action into their own hands to seek out the girl. The Host provides some very intense scenes and some good laughs.

Another good horror movie from China is The Eye. This movie is about a young woman that gets an eye transplant after being blind. All is good until she starts to see ghosts. She then sets out to find where the eyes came from and the origins of the donor. There are a few scenes in this movie that provide good scares particularly one in an elevator. There is a remake of this movie coming out in 2008 starring Jessica Alba. It is definitely one of the top horror movies from overseas.

Next is one of the top horror movies in Japan and is the highest grossing horror film in Japan called Ringu (The Ring). It is about a video tape that when people watch it they have a week to live. This is a film that has good characters and deserves a look at. There was already a remake of this film starring Naomi Watts. Though the American version is an OK film, the original still stands above it and is one of the top horror movies from Japan.

The last one on the list of top horror movies from Asia is The Audition. A man is looking for a new wife and decides to take auditions to see if he can find one. A woman catches his attention and from there he decides to move along with his plan. She is not what she appears. Soon he finds himself in a nightmare. This graphic movie can be hard to watch even for those that enjoy violence. Consider yourself warned.

There are many titles coming out of China, Japan, Korea, and so on that have been remade. It seems that Hollywood has taken a liking to bringing the stories from overseas and trying to recreate these top horror movies. In my opinion most the time the originals are better.

Top Horror Movies of 2007

There were several top horror movies in 2007.  Grindhouse, 1408, and 28 Weeks Later were some of the top horror movies during the 2007 year.

The most popular of these top horror movies during 2007 was Grindhouse.  Now this movie was extremely unique because it contained to full feature movies combined together by some very clever trailers the blend the two films together really well.  The two individual films were titled “Death Proof” and “Planet Terror.”  The crazy thing is both of these films were directed by two different directors.  “Death Proof” was directed by .  The movie is about a crazy guy you kills beautiful women with a very unique weapon, his car.  “Planet Terror” was directed by .  This movie was about an outbreak of zombies that try to take over the town.  Two people try to take on the zombies or “sickos” as they are called by fighting back with guns and martial arts.  This movie is around 31/2 hours in length, but many people said it was well worth it.  If you don’t like sitting through long movies this one may not be for you.

1408 was another one of the top horror movies of 2007.  This film provides a lot of suspense if you are into that kind of thing.  The movies main charachter, Mike Enslin, is a book author that specalizes in supernatural phenomenom.  As research for his latest book he wants to check out the famed room 1408 in a New York City hotel.  The rumor about room 1408 is that once you check in you do not check out by noon.  Mike Enslin did not beleive what he heard about this room as he thought it was just a legend.  He was met with strong cautions against staying in the room by the hotels manager.  The manager said there was a lot danger ahead if he chose to stay there.  Mike Enslin did not listen to the hotel manager.  Will he come out alive?  You will have to watch the movie to find out.

28 Weeks Later rounds off the top three of the top horror movies of 2007.  This film takes place about six months after a virus nearly destroyed the city of London.  The U.S. has said that the virus has finally been beaten and it is time to start to repopulate London.  Little did they know someone was still carrying the virus which wrecks havoc on the city again.  Will they beat it this time?  You will have to watch it to the end to find out.  This rounds out the Top Horror Movies of 2007, but come back for more.

Top Horror Movies of 2006

Top Horror Movies of 2006 include such movies like Slither, The Omen, and Saw III. Horror movies seem to be at an all time high and the box office numbers seem to be high with most of these movies. Here are some of those top movies of that year.

In my opinion one of the best top horror movies of 2006 was from the UK and titled The Descent. The movie is directed by Neil Marshall the man behind Dog Soldiers. It is about a group of women that go on extreme adventures and this one lands them in a cave and they end up not being alone. The movie uses the environment and lighting to give us the creeks from the beginning. The movie creates a claustrophobic feeling from the start. I can’t wait to see what Marshall has up his sleeve in the future.

Another one of the top horror movies of 2006 was the remake to The Omen. This movie is a remake of the 1976 classic starring Gregory Peck. The remake wasn’t quite as good as the original but it still gave some good scares. The remake stars Julia Stiles and Liev Schreiber. The Omen is about the son of a politician that could be the devil incarnate. As the movie unfolds with horrifying events surrounding the child the parents learn the secrets of the child.

One of the most successful horror series in recent years and some people’s favorite top horror movies are the Saw movies. The killer Jigsaw makes horrific traps for all the victims. Before Saw III even came out it easily was one of the top horror movies of 2006 with all the buzz around it. The movies started a trend of movies about torture and entered graphic violence that hadn’t been mainstreamed yet. The series will release another coming up in 2008. If you are a fan of gore and nasty devices then these movies are for you.

One of the best and funniest top horror movies of 2006 is the movie Slither. About an alien slugs that turn people into mutant zombies. This one stars the great Nathan Fillion, who starred in the Firefly series and the movie Serenity. The movie plays out like a B-Movie, with a lot of slime and laughs. Director James Gunn I’m sure had a bunch of fun creating this film. If you are a fan of zombie movies this is definitely one to see.

Another remake that was released in 2006 was The Hills Have Eyes. The movie is about a family stuck in the desert that is terrorized by mutated humans due to a nuclear fallout. It stars Emilie de Ravin from the hit TV show Lost. This update of Wes Craven’s version is definitely made for those that love gory horror movies. It was directed by Alexandre Aja who received praise for his horror movie High Tension.

Those are just some of the Top Horror Movies of 2006. Check back for more information and lists of top horror movies.
