Many of us have encountered the term “halal,” but not many of us know what it denotes. Halal can be seen on food labels and eateries. The term is significant for our Muslim friends because it indicates what is allowed for them to consume by their Islamic dietary law. In a nation with citizens of different religions, the term halal is very important.
For Muslim-populated states, seeing halal on food items and restaurants is no trouble at all since they are run by Muslims who adhere to Islamic rules. But for nations that have citizens practicing different faiths, then halal is not that easy to come by. Fortunately, more and more establishments are becoming conscious of their consumers’ orientations.
Halal means lawful or legal. If a food tag has this word on or a restaurant alleges they are halal-certified, it means that the preparation of their products is in accordance with the Islamic dietary law, and thus, they are allowed to consume the items.

There should also be no contamination of the items, meaning, if a utensil has been used to prepare a pork meal, it should not be utilized anymore to prepare a halal-approved item.
Other haraam items include blood, carnivores or birds of prey, animals slaughtered in the name of any other god but Allah or have been consecrated to another god, and corpse of an animal.
There are Muslim groups who declare food products as halal and give halal certification to eateries. Products that have halal authentication are the ingredients used by halal eateries to make sure that they follow the Islamic dietary law rigorously.
It’s good to know that there are food establishments not run by Muslims that still take a great effort to abide Islamic dietary laws. It simply means that they value all their clients and respect their orientations and religions.
