You may have been living in the west all your life but you can’t help but want an Asian wedding. Why? Simply because you are captivated by the culture and wants to experiment on something different that the usual western wedding. A wedding is yours to plan and because it is your special day, go wild with your ideas.
ASIANS GO WESTERN A typical Japanese bride wears a white wedding kimono called shiro-maku on her wedding day. Japanese brides don’t wear Bridal tiaras, instead the hair is styled in a traditional way and embellished with accessories and also a white hood covering her head. She does not carry a bouquet but a small sack like purse also a small sword in a case and a fan. The fan will be opened little by little and this actually symbolizes happiness.
Due to western influences, many Japanese has incorporated the western style of wedding into their own. However, there are still those who strongly hold on to their ancestor’s tradition.
If you are a soon-to-be bride living anywhere in the Orient and brave enough to depart from your wedding traditions, I’d recommend that you have a western wedding theme. You may want to wear a dress with a neckline which is slightly off your shoulder accented with beadwork or a Victorian-inspired wedding gown with a squared neckline and fitted bodice. To complete the outfit, don’t forget the Victorian style hat and lace-up boots.
You can extend the theme to the wedding favors. Imagine the buzz you would create in having something like a horseshoe-shaped coaster for favor? Your guess will certainly relive the memories of your big event every time they glance at the coaster.
WESTERNS GO ASIAN Westerners are very mystified by the Asian culture. Intrigued by the richness of Asian culture; we often see westerners exploring and experimenting with Asian culture. Weddings are no exception. A western bride clad in Asian wedding garments is a sight to see.
If a western bride chooses a Chinese wedding, she will have to wear a wedding garment in red. Red is the primary color of the Chinese and it symbolizes prosperity, love and joy.
The wedding attire for the bride is usually the red cheongsam which is a knee-length dress. It is often embellished with the phoenix and dragon motives. She styles her hair with an elaborate headdress of bridal crown unlike the olden days where the brides face would have been concealed with a red veil. Now a westerner with blonde hair, red wedding attire and oriental style makeup will look stunning yet mysterious.
For the memorabilia, give away photo album favors with the front and back covered with silk with handcrafted dragon and phoenix design. This is a perfect gift to show your guests how appreciative you are for their presence. Some of them may have already been to China, so the photo album will add more room for their treasured pictures taken there.
What more can one want for a wedding if not making your dream of it come to life. Go ahead and experiment with the bright new ideas so as to please yourself and your guests. If you think your parents might not be too keen on the idea, ask for their blessings first. They’ll come around once they realize that it is your wedding you’re planning and it is a once in a lifetime adventure.
