What Is The Difference Between Web 20 VS Web 10 Websties?

The world has become a smaller place thanks to the Internet. We cannot imagine a day without browsing the net. If for nothing, we at least visit some of our favorite sites, read some tweets or write remarks on others wall. But not so long back in the past, the Internet was not so complicated. It was just about browsing sites and reading information. So what has changed between now and then, well the technology is one for sure. That is the what this web 20 VS web 10 websties argument is all about.

Traditionally, websites were portals of information. If you wanted to learn more about some topic or read news or get any information you opened a website. It was a passive experience with just one way communication. You could of course click on the various links, but they just opened new pages that you could read. It was all about gathering information. This is what the industry today calls as Web1.0 websites.

Today you find many sites where you can read information and at the same time express your views and opinions too. Be it a social networking site or just your newspaper sites where you can comment on the article. All this has made the internet and web browsing more interactive and interesting. Such sites encouraging and providing for interactive web experiences run on what is called Wen 2.0 technology. In true sense this is more like a tow way or sometimes multi way communication.

The other big bang from the Web2.0 technology has been blogs. Now, individuals do not strive to make great looking homepages: that is Web 1.0, but are focusing on getting more traffic on their blogs, that is Web 2.0. With blogs, you can express your views and people comment on them. That is classic Web 2.0 interactive web browsing experience.

You can think of Web2.0 vs web1.0 as lecture vs conversation. In lectures, the teacher speaks and students listen. For most of the time, the interaction is just one way, with lecturer explaining and students understanding. This is how Web 1.0 based websites run. The conversation is between peers what are discussing about a topic, there is information flow both ways; this is akin to Web 2.0 websites.

The next big change in online viewing has been the introduction of smaller applications and widgets online . You can now get the same information that you saw on a Web1.0 site, but your page is now studded with all these unique ads with animations and videos and all the good stuff. This is what Web2.0 allows you to do online.

So does this mean that with all the good things, Web2.0 has killed Web1.0? Well not really, at least not yet. There are still sites that may not want to invest in the more complex web2.0 when their needs are well satisfied by Web 1.0 technology. A company home page is just regular information on the company, so for many of them a Web1.0 site would just about do the job for them.

This is what the entire web 20 VS web 10 websties argument is all about. Both are different ways of engaging users online. One is more passive and other is more interactive.
